Guidance & counselling

The Guidance and Counselling Team

At the Bishop’s Conservatory Secondary School, we are two Guidance Teachers, Mr George Haber and Ms. Lilian Mizzi. Our role within the school community is to help our students overcome problems on a personal and social level and also help them in their transition from Primary to Secondary school.

As Guidance teachers we are also directly involved in organising a variety of seminars and activities associated with personal and social development, relationships and also career related talks. Our main aim is to see that each and every one of our students feels happy, loved and guided through her own personal and academic development.

The Pastoral Team

Our school pastoral team is coordinated by an Assistant Head and is made up of members of staff and a Catholic priest who, together with all the stakeholders, take action to promote the school’s Catholic ethos, enhance the spiritual well-being, and foster the development of Christian life and values.

The Diocese of Gozo assigns a Catholic priest to our school so as to fulfil the role of mentor for the pastoral team members. He also spiritually accompanies members of staff and students who wish to deepen their relationship with Jesus Christ and grow in faith both personally and in groups.

Besides being a point of reference for individual pastoral needs, our pastoral team draws up a yearly pastoral plan which includes:

  • A specific theme per year group with the intention that students cover five important human and spiritual values throughout their school journey.
  • The setting up of Faith Groups – namely Alpha and Beta – for students who wish to deepen their relationship with Jesus and their brethren.
  • Faith celebrations and experiences during Advent and Christmas, as well as Lent and Easter.
  • Offering the opportunity as well as the preparation to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation once per term.
  • Masses for students per class per term, as well as school Masses on special occasions such as beginning and end of terms, Christmas and Easter.
  • Weekend live-in experiences for the 5th formers.
