Form 1 students studying French learned about the French tradition of la galette des rois (the “king’s cake”). This is a special way of celebrating Epiphany.
The galette is a round, flaky pastry made of puff pastry and filled with frangipane, a sweet almond cream. Hidden inside the cake is a fève (which means “bean,” but today it’s often a small ceramic figure). Whoever finds the fève in their slice, becomes the king or queen for the day. Vanessa Vella was the lucky student who found the fève in her slice!
